my chickens are getting fat on the turkey feed

Can I switch my turkeys to chicken layer crumbles instead of their game bird starter? they are about 6 weeks old now and maybe 6-7 lbs (they are BBB). My chickens fly into their pen and eat the feed and are getting FAT!!! I don't care if they grow slower, I'll just be able to enjoy them longer before butcher time then

I honestly dunno, i think the main issue is protien content

Most chicken layer is 16% protien and it has to much calcium for growing birds. (I don't remember which but it causes either kidney or liver damage). For our turkeys at about 8 weeks we go from 28% game bird starter to 20% chick start n grow.

For your BBB's they would surely grow slower, but I don't think you are doing them any favors by feeding them layer, plus probably hurting them by the calcium level.
