Well, Evey time i put somthing in the coop (like shavings, or hay or thing like that) they always are thinking its food and they ruin it by eating it or scratching it and making it bad IS THERE ANY WAY IN THE WORLD TO MAKE THEM STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i meant like they try to eat shavings and they scratch the hay out of the nest boxes were the eggs roll around and break


AND P.S. 7 BIDDIES why dont you just SHUT UP and WATCH WHAT YOU POST SMART BUTT!!!!!!!! The point is, you shouldn't try to stop it. Its going to happen. Best to come to peace with it.

if you dont mind me asking..what do your boxes look like? we had some trouble with that too then we put a higher peice of wood on the front of the boxes so when they scratch and burrow they dont lose so many shavings. i think the carpet idea might be too hard to keep clean?

i think a piece of wood might be a great idea i never really thought of that!! my nest box is basically a rectangle about a foot off the ground with 2 separate places for hens and has pine shavings in it with no peice of wood in front but it will tommarow!!
 
Yes, we have a board that runs across the nest boxes and holds the chips inside. They still kick some of them out, but most of them stay inside pretty well. I would say that our board is about 3 inches tall. The jump right over it and into the nesting boxes.
