My Chickens are so mean :/

I have put MEAN hens in Chicken jail for up to a week at a time. Seems to knock them down on the pecking order. Chicken jail is a small isolated tractor.

I feel for you. I have 2 mean girls who just love to pick on my old girl for no reason, even if they are free ranging. I guess it's just the nature of the chicken, and I've learned to deal with it by making her a seperate coop paired up with a bird who gets along with her. It must be tough being bullied all the time.

My wive always says to me about the mean girls "I'm gonna get a ruler and teach them a lesson" LOL

Well i have 4 other SLW who are also picking on her, all my girls are the same age and fairly similar in size...

Take Cinderella out of the coop with the ones that are attacking her. Even if you have a little pet carrier, to put her in. That way you can watch her to make sure that she isn't ill.

IMO being a lonely chicken is better than being pecked by the rest. Sometimes chickens dislike chickens that are unlike themselves in color or size, or age.....

I have 4 black silkies, 2 white, and 3 barred rocks, all the silkies came from the same house so everyone already got along, but when I introduced the BRs they decided to pick on the white girls for some reason, I guess just bc of the color, so the whites and 1 black girl all spent a great portion of their time in the coop, even up to a month after I began letting everyone out to free range. But now everyone comes out every day and no one gets picked on. Could you let them free range a bit? Extra space and stimulation seems to help keep their little brains from getting bored and wanting to pick.

Same thing here with us. We have 3 Ameraucanas, and 3 Wyandotte's, all as chicks together. One Ameraucana girl gets constantly picked on. She's half the size of the other girls. When everyone eats, she keeps herself back. When they are getting scratch, others will peck at her and she'll run off to a different area. This even seemed to happen as a chick too. She was always off in the corner while the others were all together, peeping alone.

She is the sweetest of them all too. We call her Yolkie. We are also going to try free ranging them here soon. There are only 6 chickens in a 10x10 coop. I would of thought that was enough space, but apparently not!

Good luck!

We have been letting them out to free range more, and they have sort of stopped the ppecking, so that is good :) thanks for all the help :)
