Honestly, you're probably doing the mice a favor, too... quick death by chicken is probaly better than starving/dehydrating without Momma mouse...

Yep, chickens will eat just about anything they can get their beaks on- think DINOSAUR when you watch your hens go after something like these mice. I caught mine fighting over a rat that our stray cat had killed ( I did take that away from them just because I wasn't sure if the neighbor had put out any D-con it could have been tainted with. The cat has learned to just kill and leave them to avoid getting poisoned after a close call a couple of years back). I don't think we have ANY lizards left in this yard since the hens ate every one they could catch, and mice wouldn't last 10 seconds around here if the girls are loose. Unless you want to incubate and hand feed a bunch of pinkies, I agree with the post to just give them to the hens to prevent a much slower and painful death for them without the mother.

My hens look at each other and say
"Meat's on the menu tonight, girls!"

It moves, they eat it. I told my DH that I better not die in the coop or he'll just find my bare bones.
I'm serious, too. Sometimes they tug at me like they're a witch and my name is Gretel. "She's still too bony, let her fatten up some more 'fore we eat her..."

Thanks for all the replys, crazy as it sounds i was out lil bit ago , putting everything up and the cat had a mouse lol i grabbed it thinking it might be moma mouse, found another one but as im running thru yard tryin to catch it, it made the fatal mistake of running into the kennel, eeeeeeeekkkk couple squeeks and they had it....so i put the one i caught in with the babys, it settled right in with them, but alas ill probably toss them in the coop in the morning.....there just so tiny !!!!

I've had a chicken run off with a dead baby chick in her beak.

Chickens are a brutal species in the animal kingdom. I wonder why they have such a bad reputation among people who don't know their true worth.
