I gave them some leftover bread we brought home from a resturant in a take out box....I cut up the bread in little pieces ...tossed in some lettuce with it and gave it to my chickens....just ''assuming''they would know the styrofoam tray was not to eat. Well, when i went back outside, the styrofoam was almost gone!! Between 25 chickens they almost ate all of it !!! I retrieve what was left from it and chased down the few that still had pieces of it in their mouths. Did I poison my poor chickens?????

Don't worry it's ok. I did the same thing with a styro plate, just not thinking. It will pass right through them. No harm done. Luckily I had read about it somewhere else before so I didn't panic. I just wouldn't make a habit of it tho, LOL.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers....I figured they probally ate lots of stuff they shouldnt...but I was totally unprepared to see that big togo-container almost gone!! ( and I was afraid I might be feeding them too much....HA )

Chooks love that darn stuff. My girls attacked the styrofoam faucet cover on the side of my house over the winter. My neighbors' girls basically ate an entire block of it. All are still living.

"This, too, shall pass."

One day a bunch of styrofoam peanuts blew into the yard. I ran around like a crazy woman trying to get them picked up. The chickens were in a feeding frenzy swallowing them whole. I chased a couple of hens all around the yard trying to get them to drop them, but they ate them anyway. Nobody died, and nobody even got sick.
