My chicken's comb got cut on some netting and it started bleeding pretty bad. So, I cleaned of all of the blood and saw that it was only a very small cut. I separated her from my other girls and thought she would be fine in a couple days. But obviously I was wrong. For some reason, her wound keeps opening up again. I put corn starch on it because I know that stops the bleeding, but it didn't help. Then I put pine tar on her comb, but that didn't help either. So what is wrong with her and what can I do to help her?

Blu-Kote might help. Keep her separated until the cut heals, and use anti-bacterial medicine (essentially, chicken Neosporin, but don't use Neosporin, as that is for humans).

You may be able to find it at TSC or a local feed store. I got my Blu-Kote at a nearby feed store (Stoltzfus Feed and Grain). Blu-Kote actually is antibacterial, I should've said Blu-Kote OR an antibacterial medicine.

a comb cut is usually not as bad as it looks.. they bleed like crazy.. as you probably have noticed.
put a couple of drops of Hydrogen Peroxide on it. but do not apply it too often because it will not let the wound heal.
there is a product out there, like a spray bandage. check at your local drug store. it is good for humans too, if you can find it..

when I was a building contractor, we used silicon caulk if we got a cut on the job. I would think that Gorilla Glue would do the same thing.

Thank you guys so much. My chicken is healed and back to her clucky self. One of my other chickens got a scrape on her comb and I took care of her. She is healing very nicely. Thanks again!
