My pullets eat crushed egg shell, but I don't see evidence of them eating oyster shell. Their eggshells seem to be fine, so maybe they eat it when I'm not looking. I have the two mixed together. When I put OS on top of the egg shell, the pile seems to look the same at the end of the day.
I wondered if the OS bits were too large. The smaller bits settle to the bottom, getting buried under egg shell pieces. The big OS pieces are about the same size as their grit, and they eat the grit just fine. I tried sifting the OS to sort out the bigger chunks, and maybe that made a difference, as I thought they ate some. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there an easy way to smash up the big pieces of OS?
