Hello, I’m new and oh so green to raising chicks. I actually posted a question yesterday and don’t know how to find if anyone answered. So how do I find that?
I have 8 chickens that are 7 weeks today. They are in a coop and run most of the day now. I do free range them several hours at a time. They seem to really like me. They come running as fast as they can when they see me but they won’t let me hold or touch them. What’s up with that? I spend hours everyday handing out and talking to them but they scream and carry on like I’m going to hurt them. What can I do???

And back to my original problem how will I know if anyone answers me? 😂

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people! Now as to your questions: Up at the right hand side of this screen there's a box with your name. You should see little icons where one looks like an envelope and one looks like a tiny bell. Click on those and you will see reactions/answers to posts you make.
As for chickens...they are all different. Some chickens are friendly, some stand-offish. They aren't NORMALLY raised/seen as pets - and before someone else says "Nuh-uh...my Daisy cuddles with me daily", I'm saying normally. Our chicks, which we incubated, would (some of them) sit on our lap and cuddle. Some would not. We didn't want them doing that, so we gently discouraged it. If you want to pick out a chick or chicks and from the time they're tiny, handle, hold, cuddle it/them every day, you may (depending on the particular chicken's temperament) end up with a "pet" chicken. But some, as they get older, don't like to be handled. Ours come running every day and are fine with clustering around us but don't like to be touched. Read the forums under 'Breed Descriptions" and you will see that some breeds of chickens tend to be cuddlier than others. You might try catching whichever chicken seems the friendliest and holding/petting it every day to see if it becomes tamer, but again, it's all up to the chicken. Good luck!

Welcome.

Your post count only shows 1 (one) post, the one you did to start this thread. Maybe you didn't post correctly yesterday ?

Can't really help you on your question, as my chickens hate me too !! They will eat from my hand, but good luck catching one . This is OK with me, as they are here for mainly for egg production, and entertainment, and I don't consider them pets.

In the top right, there is a little bell symbol, and when you get a reply, there will be a red number on it, with how many replies you got.
