I have two White Plymouth Rock chickens (Lucy and Ethel) who just turned 12 weeks. They started trying to cluck last week and are now no longer doing the cute little peep peeps. But everyone says when they start to cluck means they will start laying eggs...but its a little early still no? sometimes they cluck and hold it for a few seconds and its almost painful to listen to. Also, I have been feeding them grow feed. since they are close to laying eggs should I start mixing lay feed with what I have left of the grow feed so when they do start to lay they are already on the right feed?

They're just finding their "adult" voices :) Plymouth Rocks normally start laying at around 22 weeks of age, if they are hatchery bred chicks and proper, heritage birds can take 32 weeks or longer to start laying. So keep them on the grower and when they get to laying age you can start offering them crushed oystershell on the side, so they can help themselves if they feel they need the extra calcium.
