Hey fellow backyard chicken lovers! I am coming up on my 1 year mark, and I would like to share my flock with you! At the beginning, we only planned for 4 chicks. So, we ordered 4 baby chicks from My Pet Chicken. Sadly, only two lived, one barred rock, and one delaware. We called back and re-ordered for more chicks. Once again, only two lived, this time one delaware and one buff orpington. Then, we decided we wanted some colorful egg-layers so we bought one blue wheaten ameraucana and one lavender araucana from a local and trustworthy breeder. That brings us to 6. We then said "no more chickens", so of course, we bought another lavender araucana a few weeks later from the same breeder. After that, we did actually stop (at least for now anyway). We have been through it all with them, broody hens, predator problems, sick birds, bullies...but we love them anyway! I can't even imagine my life without my little flock of free ranging hens! Now we have: 1 barred rock, 2 delawares, 2 lavender araucanas, 1 Buff orpington, and 1 blue wheaten ameraucana!

Pictures: (of course I had to add some)

barred rock, rocky:

My 2 delawares, foghorn (we thought she was a white leghorn) and zippy:

My buff orpington, buster:

My blue wheaten ameraucana, Pheonix:

And my 2 lavender araucanas, Hedwig and Tuff:

Thanks for viewing! (sorry there are so many pics!)

I am so happy I got my chickens!

You have some beautiful babies! I keep saying I can't wait for them to be laying, however I keep reminding myself they are not going to be this small for long, enjoy them as they are. And boy are we. Ours are 7 weeks and 2 weeks roughly. 2 brooder, fun fun!

Thanks for sharing your journey!
