Yeah, there might have been some confusion. The short side facing up makes a perfectly fine roost, but I would be very surprised if a full grown chicken could fit on a 2x4 that was flush against a wall.Yes, but this is up against the side of the coop.
The chicken wire thing is a good idea. I could do that pretty easy.
Even an empty feed bag or an old sheet might work, if it just needs to deter chickens and not keep out predators.Could you maybe block off the area by stapling chicken wire between the wall of the coop and the rafter? Chicken wire does a terrible job with predator protection but is just fine for containing (or excluding) chickens.
Looks perfect! Frostranger does have a point about not worrying about it, but I’m a worry wort and I would just feel very nervous having them in direct draft in super cold weather.I had some extra hardware cloth and I blocked it off on the inside.

I have had to chase chickens out of the most random places, but this takes the cake. You may need a permanent solution, they seem to have good memories when it comes to things like this. Mine like the top of the coop door, so I've had to block it off so they can't access it.I went out there with a flashlight and yelled at them.

Tomorrow I will make the angle on the hardware cloth steeper so they can't hang out on it.
