They are normally let out in the mornings, back in for nesting, or I put them back up when we leave. However, I'm constantly having to check up on them throughout the day. They will sneak under the fence with the horses, or they will wander somewhere else and I have to bring them back. Unless I make a chicken run... That's the only thing I can do, I think, unleash someone else has an idea? My chickens are very tamed and loved, fed well, clean coupe, etc. We live out in the boonies, and coyotes are a problem. They don't come near our coupe since our dog watches over them. So what can I do to help keep them home, I would hate to keep them couped up even more than now.

I used to free range mine. They returned to the coop to lay and at night, on their own. Also to eat feed and drink, as this was the only place I kept food or water. But there's really no way that I know of, short of a fence, to control where they go, otherwise. Do they come back to the coop to roost at night? If so, cooping them up won't change their behavior, except while they're cooped up.
