Hi, all!

Just thought I'd share this with you. You can view the story on the Fox News website here. Scroll down the page a bit and see "Fowl Play" in the middle section under "As Seen on Special Report."

The Fox News producer and cameraman were at my house before Christmas. They filmed a lot, but of course edited much out.

At this point, keeping chickens in Chicago is still legal. We're working with an alderman ally (Alderman Mary Ann Smith, who is also in the Fox News segment) on getting the problems that contributed to the potential ban addressed. It's possible we may need introduce another ordinance that would set some limits on number of hens, ban roosters, etc. Nothing too different than what some other cities are doing.

But for now, we're keeping in touch with the alderman about how her intervention is going. We don't want to antagonize any of the alderman originally involved with the ban since they were just trying to fix some problems in their wards. If we can get it fixed in a way that doesn't totally ban chickens, I think we'll all be happy.

Thanks for the info! Nice video

I hope roos don't get banned - an unhappy precedent that would be for many of us. At most, there should just be a rule that they are kept indoors at night and until at least 7 a.m. (when dogs and lawnmowers also seem to start up in the morning). My roo is not as noisy as many a hen I know. And all of them combined are not as noisy as many a dog I know. Or neighbors with their relentless power tools - chainsaws, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers and on and on. Hopefully roos and hens will be allowed within reason.

What happens in Chicago and elsewhere can have far reaching impact. This subject is, for example, under discussion right now in my neck of the woods. Hoping, hoping, for a sensible outcome.

Like politicians that expound falsehoods,half-truths and outright lies? What service do the "original" aldermen offer, when they collectively, can't tell the truth nor include facts rather than fiction, when setting public policy?

Nice Video, you have some nice hens. I hope that your city council will realize that chickens are not nasty pets. People like that are so ignorant that is make me mad that it ever made the news. Laura

I can't remember the guys name in the video but what a moron. I am way more afraid of what is in cat poo than what is in my chicken poo. And has anyone heard of a bar of soap. My kids are in with the chickens all the time and guess what....We wash our hands when we are done. Someone should have that guy come on here and just read the posts and learn something or send him a poultry book so he can at least make valid complaints. Sometimes I wonder how these people ever get voted in to office.

On the video, you and your very pretty hens were great representatives of people like us at BYC. I would have frozen up at the sight of the tv camera!
