I got my first 4 hens about 3 months ago. 2 golden sex link and 2 silver laced Wyandot's. One of the silvers turned out to be a rooster. He's pretty cool though. He lets me rub his back as he spins around in circles and fluffs his wings. He sure has learned to crow though. He does it all day long and into the nights. Then about 6 weeks ago I got 3 more hens. I picked out 3 Ameracuanas. My wife wanted some colored eggs. I haven't got them together yet but have tried a couple times. The bigger ones peck at the little ones. Hopefully they will all be friends soon. I haven't had any eggs yet but hopefully by the end of July.

Welcome to BYC! I think all of us are owned to some degree by our chickens. :o) You have a nice mix of breeds. Golden Sex Links are egg laying machines and you will enjoy the colored eggs of your Ameraucanas (although actually they are Easter Eggers and not true Ameraucanas, which lay only blue eggs). If you are interested in the differences between Araucanas, Ameraucanas, and Easter Eggers, there is a good article explaining the differences at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html Hopefully you can integrate your Easter Eggers in with the rest of your flock soon. BYC has some good threads on introducing new chickens into the flock at https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=introducing+new+chickens+to+your+flock Good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You will need to mix the two flocks slowly. First, make sure the all the birds are about the same size. You can't mix very young birds into a flock of older birds. Then keep the new birds in a cage or a fenced off area, but within the flock at all times. Everybody sees, nobody touches. Leave them this way for about 3 weeks. Let them get to know each other slowly and work out the pecking order from behind wire.

Come mixing day keep an eye on everybody and the rest of that week. However always intervene if it turns bloody.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!
