I have 4 hens and a rooster. The hens are 4 years old and have ALWAYS laid eggs since they were old enough to do so. However...about a month ago they all quit laying and I don't know why. I let them free range all day and then pen them up at night to roost. I live in Kansas. Can anyone answer this question?? Also...how long do chickens live? They are silver laced Wyandotts.

4 years old? Sounds like you got EXTRA time out of your girls. Don't chickens normally lay for about two years? I am no expert but I think your girls might just be done!

HI, I have read three years is about average..............
Are you certain they are not hiding the eggs in a new area.
I have a few old girls that still lay occasionally.
I found about 50 eggs under a board the other day.
Talked to the girls..but think they will hide them in a new location.

I have been looking around to see if they are laying their eggs else where but no luck in finding any yet. They have always been so good about laying their eggs in their boxes. Thank you.
