Mine also do this .. I was told its because they are either due to lay or are laying already, I have 2 that dont do it and im almost certain that both of them dont lay eggs

I have a sablepoot that expects me to stroke her head whenever i go near her .. she stands at the coop entrance waiting for me to open it and then she will squat to get petted

My head hen is submissive to me -- squats right down when I approach -- and one of those lower on the rung but not the others, which is funny. The bottom girl is very affectionate with me though -- will eat out of my hand, sit on my lap, let me pick her up easily -- she just doesn't squat.

Too bad this morning Alabama decided I'm no longer a rooster. She must have realized she wasn't really getting mated and just being patted. She got on top of my other RIR and tried to mate her. This is really confusing!!!

If you're wondering... she is definitely a hen... she lays eggs, I've seen her do it.
