My chickens "wipe their nose" occasionally when eating

The votes are in and "cleaning their beaks" wins!

Esp since they seem to do it after defrosted corn, their fave treat, which can be a bit "mushy." Thanks!

I believe the technical term is actually called bill-wipe, which describes exactly what they are doing. As you watch other wild birds that may fly into your yard, you will see them bill-wipe, too.

Mine do this as well. If I'm nearby, they will wipe their beaks on my pants. Apparently I am little more than a gigantic napkin.

How about that noise they sometimes make when they are scarfing down food, they do it when they are out of feed and I feel up the feeder. Sounds kinda like chook, very loud kinda high pitched like. They seem to be kind coughing. What is that all about. When I was a kid I thought they were choking.

Mine prefer to wipe their beaks on me too. My little roo will fly up to my shoulder to wipe on my shirt.

Maybe that's why you had that crazy roo on your head. You let them fly up to your shoulder. Lol. Jk.

Every chicken owner in the world should hear that story. It is a good medicine for a bad day.

DH and I just noticed our birds doing this! We were curious and now we have an answer.. they did it after I tossed them a few blueberries. Its so funny the way they chase the blueberries. Thanks guys!
