Hello all! It’s been a while since I have posted on this site, just have been enjoying my three hens! I love them so much! One is very friendly, and while she doesn’t like being picked up, will occasionally snuggle. I have built this outside area for them, but they always stay near the fences. Any way to lure them out to the other areas to help them explore? Ps, I made a chicken diaper and have brought one inside, though she just wants to climb to the highest area, any suggestions? Or is that just how it is?
Thanks a ton!

How long have they been in your new area? They should be exploring the whole thing eventually. You could put a feeder smack dab in the middle for a couple of days.

Many chickens prefer to roost on the highest roosts they can find. I would just keep putting her down on the floor, if that's where you want her, and maybe make a chair or something hers that she can "perch" on, or create her one. I don't have an inside one so I'm just guessing what I'd be trying. Good luck!

As the long-time owner of a house chicken, I'm curious about why you brought one inside. I wish mine could integrate into an outside flock, but I've given up thinking she ever will. Dottie is molting right now, and there are feathers EVERYWHERE, dragged throughout the house by one of the dogs who likes to chew on them. Sigh.

The girls in one of my coops ALWAYS crowd the fences of their run and seem as if they are trying to get out long before I am ready to release them into the yard for the day. Maybe that's just the "normal" behavior for some chickens?

Thanks for the input! I don’t think I’m long term bringing them inside, just for some on me snuggles!
