My chicks are dieing

I have no clue why. They look like they have diarehia. They have pasty bottoms too. They were very healthy. I don't understand why they are all dieing. I have 95 degree brooder, food water and I wipe their bottoms with a warm washcloth to get rid of the pasty. They all are drinking but have had 15 die now. I have no clue.

FF, this could be about a thousand things in my experience. I would personally bump up the heat a notch or two and blend some of their crumble up really fine. I will get some flax for this but I never use a wet wash cloth to get rid of "pasty butt" I just................take it off and get rid of the problem for ever. I have two brood pens here and I WOULD NOT put any other birds in with them. It sounds like your chicks may have something that needs to stay away from your other birds.

Could it be cocci? I know that takes a heavy toll on the chicks if they have it. They will need some meds if it is cocci or it it is likely that they won't make it.

Do you give them medicated chick feed? If so, it probably isn't cocci. I'm not sure what else it could be.
How old are they? What kind of litter are you using?

Even with medicated there are sometimes problems. It reduces the risk, but does not eliminate it. Can you post some pictures of their droppings? You may also want to pick up some corid to have on hand because when cocci strikes it does kill very quickly, but it also responds to treatment quite well most of the time.

In addition to that list of questions where did they come from? Feed store...mail..did you hatch?

The heat needs to be on one end of the brooder and not the same temp for the whole thing. My experience has been that too much heat causes pasty bums in younger chicks, and when they haven't a place to get away from it, they drink extra, which could cause the squirts.

Hello. Thank you everyone for responding. First I use I think non-medicated feed. It is Dumor 20% chick starter from TSC. The heat lamp is on one corner. They all get right there when they go to be. They all huddle together. They also go around and eat and drink so it is not too cold in there. The one spot is 94.2 at this moment in time. Has been around 95 for the whole time. I am using the TSC brand wood shavings. No cedar. But they are still on towels. I leave them on until 5 days. As far as the feed and water, I gave them a worm but stopped after you all told me not too. They have always had diarehia as soon as they came in the box But I don't know if its just the yolk thats different or what. they have a constant fresh water supply. Every few hours I change and put fresh in. Very clean. I clean it out every morning. Bedding and all. I got these from Hoovers hatchery. And they do have room to roam around and get away from the heat. I hope I have answered all of them and thanks for taking the time and helping me!

omg, that sounds awful! at first i thought it was cocci or something, but idk now

maybe it could have something to do with the worm you gave them?
