comerrick, my cockrels have never fought to the death. The worst they've done is a little comb damage and at one point I had 13 cockrels. It's always worth letting them grow up a little to see what their personalities are like, I have 3 roos and 8 hens and there is peace in my flock even though people would say that's 2 too many roos.
