Some where between San Diego, California and Cleveland, Ohio are 6 small scared and hungry baby chicks. I've called or visited 8 post offices between here and there and none of them can locate my girls. I'm just sick! How can a package with live babies go missing? No scans, no ideas.:(

what day were they shipped? How were they shipped? Regular priority mail or overnight express? Have you told the seller and gotten a tracking number from him? The box should have Live chicks written on it and to call you (with phone number) as soon as they arrive. If they were day old, they can go up to 3 days without eating but they will be thirsty and probably hot.

Yes I called the seller and they said nearly the same thing, that they could go for 3 days and survive. I had them overnight Express Mail. Not that it has done much good. The postal service was unable to reach Cleveland with their own direct phone numbers. I am just sick!!! As soon as get them (fingers crossed) I am set for them. The local post office has my info on the wall and told them if they come in at 3:00am to call me. I WILL COME GET THEM!! please think positive thoughts for my girls!!

For one thing you can't rely on the arrival date the post office may have given. My friend has ordered birds several times and paid extra for overnight express and only once did the bird actually arrive by noon the next day. Some were two days in traveling and some in three. PO doesn't guarantee shipment by a certain day anymore. Yet, they still charge extra. Be sure to open box at the PO in front of them, so they can witness.

Please let us know the outcome -

Well the girls were scanned around 3:30 am this morning. Set on the cold concrete floor of the mail room. I was called at 6:30 am to pick them up. Two were dead in the box. One Welsummer very recently deceased and one Easter Egger Bantam that had rigor. There was NO heating pad?? The four left are darling! One Easter Egg Bantam, one Welsummer ( I am watering by hand) and two Australorps one who looked bad until being hand watered for the first two hours. She has perked right up.

They are warm and happy right now. I'm glad 4 of them made it. I'm sick at loosing the other two because of human stupidity. The post office called this morning and told me to contact My Pet Chickens for a postage refund since it was Express Mail and guarantied overnight delivery (cough) I talked to at least 8 different postal facilities and found one animal lover in the whole bunch. Phyllis at the main post office was still trying to figure out where they spent the night. She is the only worker to call Cleveland for me instead of just pushing paperwork through. She is still working on why they were not sent straight here.

I'll keep you posted on how they do.. I believe Meyer's Hatchery sent them out for My Pet Chicken, so Meyer's sent them with NO heating pad and very little straw mat to cushion them. I think I'll call them later today and give them a piece of my mind. What little I have left of it.
