My chicks are pecking each other.

Mine wheredoing this and someone told me that they were removing their baby fuzz fron each other and they did stop when when their feathers came in

Okay, thats what I thought they were doing, then someone told me they needed more space. They are doing better now, and some are still pecking a little. I wondered if it was some sort of establishing pecking order.

Pecking in the brooder happens because they are uncomfortable...hot, cold, hungry, thirsty, cramped in, or sick. They don't pick the fuzz of each other and if they are, this will become a bad habit.

The pecking order starts to develop at 2 weeks. It isn't actually pecking, but an established order to which each member of the flock has to adhere to. There is a flock leader and each bird has a place beneath this leader, on down to the lowest in the order. Generally the flock leader gets to eat first, drink first, lay in her favorite box and roost in her favorite spot. All birds must let him or her be the leader and each bird is above another bird and so on. on down to the lowest in ranking.
