My chicks are preening themselves a lot

Hi. We just got some one week old chicks and they are constantly preening themselves. I know that it's natural but the rate at which they're doing it is excessive. Do they lack something? Is there a disease or infection? Too hot? All answers are appreciated.

How much preening are they actually doing? Can you estimate number of minutes an hour spent doing it?
Are they showing bare patches?
Where did you get them?
What feed are you using?
What temp is the brooder?

Growing feathers means a lot of feather sheaths to pick off. It seems like an itchy process from what I have seen over the decades.
