my chicks came this morning

my baby chicks came in the mail this morning...so cute...i got 50 buff orpingston, 25 partridge rocks, 25 speckled sussex, 25 black giants and 25 araucana's.......I have them in 2 large boxes 75 in each box....I have a heat lamp in each box....should I put 2 heat lamps in each box?....adding pictures

HUGE shipment! Wow!

We got chicks on Monday.... I understand the excitement.

As far as the number of heat lamps.... I wouldn't know with that number of chicks! Or without knowing how big your boxes are.... but I think if I were in your shoes, I'd probably have a couple thermometers in each box at least, set in different areas and keep an eye on the temps. That oughtta tell ya if ya need another light or not.

Also not knowing where the boxes are.... wow...that's a lotta chicks! I've only got 14 here.

I would watch them..if you have them running around and eating and so on they have enough heat.but if they are all bunch in a huge glob lol i would add another.Careful though i knew someone who added to much.i went to look at her babys and they where all on the sides of her box panting.She was having baked chicken for dinner and didnt even realise it.(ok bad joke lol)

I went a head and put another lamp in each box and they stopped huddling together.....the boxes are probably 4ft by 4ft......I might separate and add another box and 2 more heat lamps.....150 is alot of chicks....there was only 1 dead and they all are looking pretty healthy now so I think that is good....they are eating and drinking good...

I did not realize they slept with thier heads down on the ground....I thought some were dead....scared me
