It is a month old white Chantecler chick.
Gender unknown
It is on medicated chick starter.
Housed in a small brooder with 6 other chicks the same age.
Today I went to play with them and noticed that ones eye is shut and white liquid is coming out.
It also has raspy breathing.
No apperent bleeding or broken bones.

might be a vit A deficiency... try giving three drops of polyvisol enfamil in beak once a day for a week then taper off the next.
(this is a childrens A-B-D liquid vitamin... dont use the one with the extra iron in it)
Flush the eye out daily with a sterile saline solution.

You might want to separate him/her in case it is an infection that the others can get. Use contact lens saline solution to wash out the eye. If has anti bacterial properties. Soak a cotton ball and wipe the eye in a gentle downward motion to see iff that helps. I'm sure it will feel really good to the poor thing.

Go to your feed store and get some antibiotic eye ointment. Make sure it is for the eyes. Give Poly Vi Sol vitamins like dlhunicorn suggested and make sure she eats and drinks.

Any more questions just ask. I hope the little one gets better.

Thanks
It is drinking.
I gave it a little box with water and food.

I put the contact salution on the chick and some other med.
But it died.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Watch the others for early symptoms but sometimes these things just happen. Sending good thoughts your way.

I wouldn't go as far as treating with medicines yet, but I would definitely boost the immunities of the other babies as they were all exposed to this.

I would at least recommend using a poultry type vitamin/mineral product in their water for a week, then taper off for the next week. The vitamin A in it will help with their respiratory and ocular health. The other vitamins support their over-all immunity.
