My chicks GO WILD for crickets!

thats exactly what ours did!! lunchbox will run as fast as she can away from the other hens and then turn around and stare at them with the cricket in her mouth!

anybody ever give yours cuttlebone?

i want to baby the heck out of my chicks, nothing but the finest oats and watermelon. crickets would be an AWESOME snack. But I am afraid to give them any kind of meat for fear of making them carnivorous, any truth to my bizarre thought?

Now the cricket idea is terrific. Wish I had thought of that sooner. Even better, I wonder if I should have fed them the ciccada's we had early this summer.

grasshopper can be host of the cecal worms...bad for chicken...sure they will eat some, but giving them more not good.

not sure about crickets.....

here is a list...of host of worms.


Worms...............................................host

1. tapeworm...........................ants,beetle,earthworm,slug,snail,termite

2. fluke.....................................dragonfly, mayfly

3. gapeworm............................earthworm,slug,snail

4. cecal......................................beetle,earwig,grasshopper

5. capillary....................................earthworm



Great reason chicken need wormed......as they will eat these without any help from us.
