I hatched out some chicks last sunday. Took them out of the incubator on monday night. I havent had too much time messing with them because Im trying to do lots of yard work before the rains come in next week..

Well everytime I stick my hand down in they all pile in a corner to hide. One chick attacks my finger none stop (could be a roo?). Everytime I pick one up and hold it close its shaking

Do I just need to put more time into them or will they always feel this way about me?

No worries sarah give them a few more weeks of seeing you around them and they should come around. I hatched babies last weekend too and they hate me as well right now. The babies in the brooder do at least, the babies under broodies aren't so skiddish for some reason.

Yes it takes time to develop a relationship. You do need to spend more time with them though.
About the one that attacked your finger....well it might be a roo, but Even my hens do that because they are establishing pecking order.
Good Luck you will be a good momma hen!!!
Oh, and congrats on your new chickies!!!

Mine have always been that way for the first week with the exception of my Wheaten Ameraucanas... the most loving birds including BOs that I've ever had.

Thanks guys.
This is m second batch and the others always loved and accepted me. Just didnt know if it was a breed trait or what

It might depend on the breed too. All my other chicks liked me, or at least put up with me, picking them. Until I got leghorn chicks. I picked those little suckers up every day, gave them special treats, talked really sweet to them... and to this day, they still run from me. They are going to be 12 weeks old on Monday.

I had the same worry. I hatched my chicks last Friday so they are now a week old. Whenever I would stick my hand in the brooder they'd all screech and run away and if I tried to pick one up it would try so hard to get out of my reach and squawk like mad.

Now there are a few that actually like being held. More and more are getting friendlier every day. When I stick my hand in some run away still and some come running to it looking for treats.

I'm guessing it just takes time. They seem to be liking me more.
