I got my chicks last Monday after a screw up at the P.O. I finally got them at 5:00p.m. So far I've lost 4!!! Both of my red caps I think!!!! I ordered a male and female but they didn't make it. Also lost one Dominque, and I'm not sure of the other. I really hate it when this happens. The other 23 seem to be doing good, feathering out and raising cain!!! I''m not sure but I think they were just too hot. I've had the temp. in the brooder at about 85 and they seem to like that much better then 90 or 95. Maybe I got cold weather chicks, you think?

I'm so sorry about the PO mixup-don't know about the temp. Do they have enough room in the brooder to get away from the heat lamp? My experience is with guineas and I used a plastic tub about 4' X 20" with the heat lamp at one end. They would get where they were the most comfortable which was farther away from the lamp as they got a little older.

Thanks guys! Yes my brooder is pretty big and all the other chicks seem to be doing great. The reason I thought heat, was my golden laced polish chick looked like she was going to be the next victim, but I lowered the heat made sure she drank alot, and she's doing great now. I've been doing this for over 7 years and I know you can lose a few in the beginning, some chicks just aren't very strong, and after the mix up at the P.O. I just think they got a little too much stress!!!!
