My Cochin coop

Quote:
It's just a crawl space vent, and there is another one on the other corner of our house less than 5 ft away. I'm just going to plywood over it.

Thanks everyone for the input and compliments.

Is there anyway you could extend the coop part another foot? Cochins are large birds and when all three are in the coop with feed and water it's going to be tight. If you can't make it bigger I'd try to find a way to feed and water in the run to conserve space.

I can make it larger if needed. I was planing on putting the feed and water in the run hanging from the coop.

Do you think that would be ok, or should I still make the coop a bit larger?

Nick

Cochins are large and you said you had 3? So 4x3 should be the absolute minimum. I ain't saying they'll kill each other over the extra 4' but it can help reduce feather picking and make it easier to keep clean. I would say expand if you can work it in.

OK I will extend it out an extra foot. It will be like an overhang in the coop. I think that will be where I put the windows also. Whadaya think? Good idea?

I got most of the coop and run done this weekend. All that is left is build and attach the door to access the nests, put the roof on, and finish putting on the little bit of chicken wire. We will most likely paint it for weather protection, but it's made of ceder so I'm not to worried about it. I didn't take any pictures of it yet. I will try to take pictures and post them tomorrow.

Zaboo- Thanks for the heads up on the size of the coop. I think they will have plenty now.
