The past few times when I've been in the run handling my 8 week old mixed flock, my buff orpington cockerel seems to bark at my dogs when they howl the jealousy song. Barney, the cockerel, will run to the fence the side the dogs are on and let loose a harsh Bock/honk sound. They startle and stare at Barney. When the dogs start singing again, Barney barks at them and they stop for a moment. I never have my phone when it happens. Strangest thing.

I'll try. It seems like when I have my phone, the dogs won't howl.

I know Barney isn't crowing at them. He's been crowing since 4 weeks, and the sound he makes sounds nothing like that.

I got a video. Barney wasn't as assertive as he was this morning. It might be getting old for him. But he does Bock twice and the dogs stop barking right after.

So far he has been really sweet to me. Sometimes he tries to get frisky with the 8 week old girls, but I think he will back off once I merge his group with the 12 16 week olds. The 16 week old girls are pretty dominant and would hurt him.

I tried a merge a week ago. 4 of the 12 chased and pecked him around the run. He came running to and flew right into my arms shaking. Normally he is not a cuddler. I had to wrangle the other young ones back into their run... It was not fun.
