He is about 3 months old and I have yet to hear him crow. Is it possible that he knows I am the boss so no need to crow. my neighbor is about 1/4 mile away she has a roo that crows and a pheastant that makes noise too. Any Ideas. I would have thought, he would have crowed by now.

Hi Shannon,
My Ameraucana roo didn't start crowing until he was about that age. I don't know it that's normal, but he's well over a year old now and has always been the picture of health and vigor, so I don't think it's a problem. Of course, his first few crowing attempts were pretty funny - he sounded like an adolescent boy going through puberty!!!!

Thanks

I just want to hear him. I am getting sad that the neighbors crows and not mine.

I feel silly when I go in the coop pick him up and try to crow at him. He just looks at me like what in the *ELL are you trying to do.

We have 3 roos about 9 weeks old now. Two of them are avid crowers, and 1 is the best at it. They crow about everything, or nothing at all! I always encourage them by crowing back at them and my DH thinks I'm nuts! lol The other roo, and by far the fanciest I have, hasnt made a peep yet, litterally. He makes NO noises what so ever. No chirps, peeps, purrs, squawks...nothing. I've never heard a noise outta him. I was wondering if a chicken could be deaf, because if he's deaf he cant hear noise, so he cant know that he's making any...or not making any.

I look forward to hear him make a sound too, but I will accept him even if he never makes a peep.
