I’m still in the process of building so this will be incomplete, but I will continue to update as I go along. I have been lurking here for a while and looking at other builds to gather ideas. So what I’ve got is a raised 8x6 coop with attached 18x6 run.
I am fortunate to have found a cellular tower construction company very near my house that puts pallets and spools etc on the street daily for free pickup. And a neighbor with a fence company who also gave me free lumber. It’s been fun to build. It wasn’t fun breaking down boatloads of pallets though lol. And also not fun building in the Georgia summer heat.
Bottom coop frame..
Walls…
Silkies helping…
I built the roof on top of the frame to minimize time on a ladder and simply hoist up on top of the walls once they were framed up….
Moving things to their final location. I did most construction up near the house for convenience and each piece individually wasn’t overly heavy…
Walls up…
Roof up….
Straps for metal roof attachment…
Earth anchors and temporary ratchet straps. I have cable and turnbuckles to replace them with, but storms were vicious so I had to throw these on…
Metal roof on and some siding. Learning as I go…
I scored a bunch of free vinyl flooring so that was awesome!
Door built and installed…
Beginning the run construction…
That’s about where I’m at currently folks. I know that’s a long post. Thank you for your time and information. You have already helped me here with a tip on the incorrect hardware cloth I purchased.
.
I’ll update this thread as I go along. Still a good bit to go. I’ve built the door for the run, cut all roof stringers. Gotta get more roofing, cut windows/ventilation, build nesting boxes, install roosts, bird door to the run, steps to get in and out for feathered friends and humans. Jeez, the list goes on and on. Don’t get into this if you are t ready to do the work! Lol. Look forward to y’all’s replies and comments. Thank you!
