Here's is my coop as it is for the moment. It still needs a few thing done to it and of course some paint.

Now to my thoughts on winter. I'm in Iowa and our winters can get rather interesting. Sub zero temps and snow. Here's my idea. I'm insulating the actual coop house. The pen or outer area(green lattice) I'm going to wrap in a heavy tarp. The house is 4ftX6ft and that's a bit small for 8 chickens so I was thinking of making plastic film strips and hanging them from the door from house to pen. Kinda like what would be found in meat coolers. My concern is will they go through it? I thought about adding a strip evey few days so they can get used to this being in the door way. This way I could keep the door open and they can walk between the two areas. What do you think?

Thanks
Jeremy

That sounds like a good idea. Just add a few so they get used to going through it. I've never had to deal with such cold temps but I know my larger birds roosted outside on our coldest nights in the teens.
