I've been lurking and learning and hoping to start a flock this year. I found a second-hand backyard tractor to get me started, and I'm picking it up tomorrow! Now I can look for pullets :) The local laws allow two hens without a permit. Whether you have three or twenty hens, the permit is $50 per year. I'll start with two hens.

I like old-timey dual-purpose hens and I'm especially interested in Sussex. I registered so I can start talking to BYC members, seeking out people who are breeding chickens in my area.

Hi and welcome to BYC. It's a great site. I have 3 sussex and i love them.

Hello and :welcome
I started out with two hens too, it's still a lot of fun, you can get to know their personalities, a bit like other pets such as dogs. Good luck with your coop! You'll probably be wanting more chickens soon. I know I did! Enjoy the site. :D
