I finally finished the coop yesterday. I moved the girls over this afternoon. They're having a great time exploring their new home. I sat in there with them for a good while just watching. It was very entertaining! Anyways, here is it!

There was an existing slab when I bought this house. I think it used to be a dog run years ago. Anyways, that is what I used to start building on.
Here is the frame.

I used what wood I had laying around for as much of it as I could. Obviously, I still had to go out and buy more studs. I used hardy plank for the outside.

Afterward, I added the windows, hardware cloth over all of the vents and the windows so that they can be open and let the air in, but still be protected. Then I painted it and filled it up with chickens! Here's the finished product!

That's great nobody digging in there, will you be building a run so they get some sunshine?

Oh absolutely! I'm actually giving them an entire yard. It's about 50x20 worth of a run that they can "free range" in. :)

We're putting the fence up this week. I keep reading that you're supposed to keep them locked in the coop for a week when they're first moved in to help them get acquainted with it. So, that's what I'm doing. They are certainly much happier to have all that room now compared to that brooder! I would let them out for a few hours a day (supervised) but they still had to go back into that brooder box. lol
Looks great! I hope the zombie in the background of the first picture isn't able to get in!

HA!!!! That's our archery target!!! He's staked to the ground and has already been shot in the head many times. ;) The chickens are safe from that one.
