My coop/run build

So finally got the framing done and put in the ground today! I did an 8x8 modified build from the Downeast thunder farm design. Just gotta cut and put up the rafters but this was all built with wood I found in the barn so some of it was warped and I had to make it work. All free lumber, only thing I bought was screws and hardware cloth for the base. The run is going to be attached to the coop so I left one end open so the chicks can run underneath the coop and I wanted it raised off the ground as extra protection against predators. Stay tuned for the rest of my build.

Got the rafters up and started doing the siding today! It’s finally starting to look like a coop. Now the question is to insulate or not insulate. Hopefully I’ll get the rest of the sides done tomorrow then I’ll just have to put the metal siding on the roof and sides and start and finish the run.

Don't bother, more cons than pros...but I'd strongly suggest you extend the roof overhangs all the way around to protect your vents and windows from rain and snow fall.

Thank you for the feedback! I only plan on putting the vents on the front and back where the overhang is now.

the best laid plans and all......do the sides too, you will be glad you did...look up 'fly rafters' for how to.

Finally got all the siding on and the door on today. Tomorrow I’m gonna trim the metal siding down and get it on the roof.

Got a lot done, got the run attached and all I have left to do is put the top on and trim the rest of the metal off the front of the roof. Unfortunately, tractor supply was out of metal cutting Dremel disks so I’ll have to wait for them to restock before I can cut down that eye sore. The little dinosaurs seem to be loving the outside time though. Didn’t even have to teach them how to go inside at night or to come out in the morning. They just did it themselves. Smart little boogers. Unfortunately we did loose chick. She was the runt of the litter and I think the cold was too much for her. It gets down to 30 degrees some nights. She will be missed. The others are thriving and using the roosts I built them. If I can find some windows on the cheap or in a trash pile I’m gonna install them. The coop is framed for windows I just haven’t found any yet. I’m just glad the little guys can go outside and forage and have some fun finally.
