I don`t think my roosts are out far enough from the nest for my chickens comfort, granted they are just chicks now but, what is the ideal ratio of distance to allow them to roost comfortably? I know this is an odd question but there it is.

Do you only have a roost in front of the egg nests? Usually, they are only meant as a spot to land on when jumping to the nests. You might want to put in a separate roost, preferably a bit higher than the nests are to discourage sleeping in the nest boxes. Also, you might want to block off the nest boxes until your girls are approaching point of lay.

Usually, people recommend about a foot between the roost and wall, and also between roosts.

Yes, only in front of nests. Guess we don't know chickens for sure. I will try to put in a higher roost then. Also my coop is more nests than shedrow so as they grow they are spreading out into one of the nest as they need room. My coop is six nests, three top and three bottom, hubs didn't know chickens either when he built. Think I can have only three nests with six chickens? I gotta make it comfortable for them. Gotta get the nest roost away from the nests too then it sounds. Thanks so much for the knowledge.
