Hey. So I have have a cornish hen who is almost a year old, and I've noticed that she's been a little under the weather lately. It got really cold yesterday, with temperatures below freezing, which she is not used to. When I was feeding all my hens-I have 4 hens and a rooster- I noticed that she was shivering. The other hens were fine, and I attributed the shivering to the fact that she is molting and has a big bald patch on her stomach. I moved her to the garage, which is 30 degrees warmer, and she seems to be doing okay but she is a little off.
She will eat food and drink water, and she mostly just sits around all day(although this is normal behavior for her). However when she stands up or sits down her whole body shivers for a minute and then stops. She is also having a little trouble breathing, she wheezes kind of like a person who has a runny nose.
I put apple cider vinegar in her water because I've heard that this helps a lot. She is not a big layer, none of the hens are laying right now, so I don't think that she's egg bound. Her poop is in good condition and I haven't noticed any worms, so I don't think she has that either.
Maybe I'm over-reacting but I'm just not sure what to think. Maybe she just has a cold or a respiratory infection? If so I know that birds are fragile creatures and hard to cure. I'm just wondering if anybody can suggest anything because I've seen that this community has helped others with their chickens a lot.
