My Cornish is kinda sick. Is there anything I can do?

Hi all. My bantam Cornish isn't feeling well, all these dang chicken colds going around he's already been sick a few times this year. But my cochin hen just got whatever he's got and died, I can't let that happen to him too.


He has gunk all around his eyes (I clean it off quite a bit) and doesn't really want to do anything, he just stands in the uncomfortable position all day. I put a few drops of ACV in his water if that even does anything and I got him to eat some food a few minutes ago. I'm going to give him some colloidal silver when I get home. I know this thread is probably a lost cause but is there anything else I can do to help him? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Chickens don’t get colds. Once you have a respiratory disease in your flock, and there are about 8 common ones, it will remain until your last chicken dies. It helps to know what you are dealing with, and close your flock. No birds should come in or go out of your flock. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) is a common disease, and it can also spread through hatching eggs. The other common ones are infectious bronchitis virus, coryza, ILT, and a few others. Antibiotics such as Tylan or Tylosin can treat symptoms of MG, but does not cure it. The chicken is a carrier for life and the symptoms can come back.

The best way to know what you have is to get a necropsy through your state vet if you lose another bird. The symptoms can sometimes give a clue, but some diseases have similar symptoms. Can you post a picture of his eyes, and give other symptoms? Cleaning out drainage or gunk twice a day with saline eye wash and then applying a small dab of Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment can be helpful.
