I have 3 older ducks and needed to replenish my flock. Now I have 4 younger ducks. While I was at the feed store I decided to get some chicken to find a brooder hen. I bought 2 leghorns (Male and female) and 3 bantam hens. The hens are laying but when they are in the process the 4 younger ducks keep harassing them off they nest. Does anyone understand this behavior? I don't understand, the older ducks pretty much mind their own business. Please help me understand so I can fix it. The rest of the day they are fine grazing with the hens.

Are they stealing the eggs or just chasing the birds away from "their" territory?

Since the chickens are new, the ducks are at the mildest, exploring them and at the worst, harrassing them. Set up something to allow the hens to set and roost without harrasment.

Also, leghorns are not a broody breed. Great egg layers though. Depending on your banties- they may or may not be broody, usually broody.

Just picking on the backs of the hens, pulling feathers out until they leave the nest. Then they leave them alone.
