About our chickens!
We have 4 hens; 2 EEs, 1 RIR, and 1BO. We are also currently raising 10(had 12 but lost 2) chicks for my in laws, thought we may keep 1. Lastly we are also raising 2 ducklings and will be adding 2 more next month since one is a drake.
So we are having a wonderful hot day here in DFW Texas! 86 degrees so I was able to let my chicks and ducklings out for a bit of play time. We set up a tiny plastic saucer with just over an inch deep of water. The ducklings had a BLAST splashing in that. And it’s so sunny they dried almost instantly! The chicks got their first experience with real foraging and one even tried to take a dirt bath.
We even brought the calmest of my hens, the RIR, in for 2 mins to introduce her to the chicks. She did NOT like being separated from the others. She was yelling almost as loud as an angry rooster
so that didn’t last long and she got a shredded carrot treat for the stress.
