She appeared until recently- to be a buff. But as she (or he) feathers out I am seeing a lot of dark cropping up on her face. I mean a LOT. Her face was rather pale before, now it looks like she dipped her face in mud. lol

Attached are various pictures. :D Maybe she is a Buff but she is just feathering different than the other one. This was a straight run mixed batch. I now have 4 specific breeds in a new batch so I am becoming familiar with Buff, Golden 300, Fawn&White Runner and WH markings. But this crested (and the black ones too frankly) has me stumped.

I admit it's kind of fun watching and not knowing but was curious if any of you might have has a buff or something that feathered so darkly on her face? When we first got her she looked like the Pekins did at the time (all yellow with a tiny bit of marking by her face) with a pom on her head. Actually they told us she was a pekin with a pom (crest). Obviously she is totally not a Pekin. ha

I almost wonder if she is a watered down Fawn&White Runner? She does stand a little straighter than the Buff in this batch but not as noticeably as the ones we got from Metzers.

MoMo at 2 weeks old.

Here she/he is at 3 weeks old.

From a few days ago. The feathering a lot lighter.

today: (she is almost 5 weeks old now)

See how her beak is actually yellow? The Buffs beaks are a beige kinda color. Hers is not.

What I will say is we are keeping her/him regardless of gender. :D

I totally agree about the Runner comment. The longer I look at her, and watch her move about- the more of a runner she looks to me. How exciting if so! We got a black Runner from this batch too. I feel like we got lucky. Several Pekins (which I have grown to love), a couple Runners and I still have not figured out the black ones yet. I don't think there are too many black ducks- and they came from a non fancy farm- so I am thinking they are likely Cayugas. Although one of them is smaller than the other 2 and has white around her bill.
