Hi everyone!! I have suspicions of what I have in my crew, but wanted to get others opinions.. as I am quite the amateur and new to chickens!! They are between 5&6 weeks old.
I have:
3 Barred Rocks (all pullets?)
3 New Hampshire Reds (2 pullets & 1 cockerel)
3 Gold Laced Wyandottes (complete mystery)

These were straight run from the local Agway… and yes, of course “Iris” is my FAVORITE!!! So friendly and lots of personality… So most likely I’ll be keeping a Rooster too 😂

Any help appreciated!!

Iris - cockerel
Rose - pullet
Nadine - pullet
Dorothy - pullet
Virginia - kinda 50/50 on this one
Ellen - kinda 50/50 on this one
Bernadine - pullet
Madeline - leaning toward pullet, but a bit concerned about that wattle
Alma - leaning toward pullet, but a bit concerned about that wattle

For some added details - the barred rocks, by my understanding, tend to be more white in color for males, but more black for females. I'm also seeing a bit more wattle than I was expecting for these being pullets at this age.

You're right on your guessing, but the wyandottes are a little early yet.
stop petting and giving special treatment to your cockerel, you think he's being friendly, he's actually losing respect of you and is getting bold. Once hormones hit, he'll turn into terror

I know it’s early for the Wyandottes. Ellen was a total DBag when she was younger! So I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up being a Roo. It’s early, but I’m hopeful for hens 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I had ordered RI reds, but when I went to pick up the girl asked me if NH reds were okay, because that’s what they got. I honestly am not sure what the difference is!

Good to know! Iris might end up being dinner… as a rooster was not in the original plans 😬
Not necessarily. Once he reaches five or six months, you may go through a terror stage, but if you work with him then, you may be able to break him. You'll run into one occasionally who won't give in and will be mean, but frequently you can break 'em. If you really just don't want a rooster, I'm not against eating it, but if you want to try, he may turn out all right.
