As one of my BR chicks sleeps soundly in my palm.
He thinks they are for eggs and meat only.
Sure chickens tasty (not a fan of eggs)
but can't chicks be raised as pets?

There are a LOT of people here who have pet chickens.

There are some who even keep them in the house. . . Take Silkies for example.

Also, my chickens may be for their eggs, meat, and money - but I actually have them because I love them. I'm not the kind to buy some common breed just because it lays eggs, then stew it once it is done.

Heck I have some eggs here I paid nearly $200 for the dozen, whom the chicks when grown won't give me any meat and all the eggs will be sold to other people or hatched, and I call that love.

so . . . Yes they can be pets.

But yeah, I know this is random, but when my chick closes its eyes, the lids make it look like it has zombie eyes o.o

If your Dad comes over to visit often and observes the chickens, he will begin to notice their individual personalities.
After awhile, he will come to realize your chickens are pets.
Yes, they give you eggs.
Yes, they give you meat (sad harvest day)
Yes, they bring you joy and provide entertainment.

Any animal that jumps in your lap so you can pet it... wait a second did I just say ~pet~.
You get my point.
I think the reason people have a hard time dealing with this issue is that most people eat chicken.
People have a hard time killing somthing that has sat in their lap. I have not killed any of my pee pees yet,
if I do at least I know that they had a good life and were loved.
