My dad says layer feed now! I say one more bag of grower!

Being a Dad myself I know I'm not always right but mean well. In your case, stay on a nonmedicated grower until you see that first egg then mix in layer (I prefer pellets) with the grower until it is used up. BTW, I picked up 10 pullets from TSC in midApril as well and they aren't laying yet either--expecting it to start about the end of this August/beginning of Sept. Right now they're on Nutrena starter/grower.

I went to a 50/50 mix of grower finisher and layer at 17 wks and now at 18 wks they are on straight layer. I am just following the chart on the feed bag. They have starting consuming more feed in the past couple of wks, and free range daybreak till dark. Hoping something is a foot, either they're getting ready or they're just pigs.

They're old enough that the layer won't hurt them, but I still prefer a non-medicated grower, flockraiser, or (what I use all the time) gamebird feed. Given how close they likely are to laying (what breed(s) are they, some lay earlier then others) I would put some oyster shell out free choice if you decide to stick with the grower. The oyster shell is cheap and will ensure that any "early" layers are able to meet their calcium needs.
