Score: Wire-1, Anna-0. I have some "rough ends" to say the least on my wire that attaches to the door post. I have tried pounding the loose ends into the post, snipping them down to nothing, sanding them down, melting them to round the edges (yeah, I'm desperate!) but they are still sharp. So anytime I try to open the stubborn latch on the door I get nicked every time- but this time was the worst. This morning I had a bag of feed on my shoulder and was trying to open the latch with one hand and sliced two of my fingers pretty good. Oh, what I wouldn't do for my chickens!

I had been working outside cleaning coops and feeding so my hands were NOT clean! I washed my hands with hot water and disinfecting soap. Then I came inside and doused them with peroxide. I think I'll invest in some leather gloves for chores now....

*Like my first aid Chipotle napkin? LOL

With the way the door hangs and such, I wouldn't be able to put another piece of wood on it. I've also tried melting the wire but I can't get it hot enough to melt. I'm going to try electrical tape over ends next but i'm not sure if it will stay on since the ends are so short.

Maybe try nailing a furring strip, like the size of a yardstick, over those nasties.
Or, depending on how many there are, try a large head (like a roofing) nail, and nail over each one...

i have cuts all over my hands from the rat wire covering my brooder.i don't even realize it util i see the blood.

What about stapling some cloth/canvas over that area?
