(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens
We first got chickens April of 2020. My daughter has also begun diving into the world of coturnix quail.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
14 chickens. And as I said, diving into quail. She has a pair of italians, a pair of falb fees, and 5 1 week old pharaoh chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We mostly have bantam cochin mixes, but we do have a little frizzle, an Easter Egger, a blue chicken, I forget the breed. My daughter could tell you. But she lays huge brown eggs, and often double yolkers. Then we also have a few Ameraucanas. My daughter is obsessed with them.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Probably watching their personalities bloom.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I do a bit of knitting, and baking. But usually I'm just working.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my husband, my daughter, and my son. We have a dog; a golden doodle.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
My daughter spends tons of time on here, and is always talking about what she's learned. She has become so knowledgeable it blows me away. I just thought it was about time for me to join myself.
