My older daughter had to quit school after one semester, for financial reasons. Since then, she's been living at home, and looking for a job. She never had a job in high school (we live out in the sticks, and she didn't get her license until the end of her senior year), so she was facing stiff competition with folks with a lot more experience. Any way, today, she had an interview at the closest mall, and called to say she got the job, and starts today!!!

We had a rush to find a black shirt before she went to work at 2:45 - she wound up borrowing one from DH. LOL.

She's been really depressed since she had to quit college. I'm so glad somebody finally gave her a chance!

Congratulations to her! In this economy, that's quite a feat! Our son is 18, but still has a year of high school left. We told him he didn't have to get a job this summer (as if he could), but he wasn't going to sit around playing computer games all summer. He's been doing volunteer work all summer - he's been helping build a home for Habitat for Humanity, he's helping out at the local intake center for Wildlife Rehabilitation, and one day a week he's teaching guitar to middle-school kids through a program at our library. We figure it's good experience, he's building up references, and it looks good on applications - work or college! Plus, he's doing good in the world. If anyone's kids are out of work, I would suggest they think about volunteering - it's a great way to make contacts, too.
Liz
