My Daughter Has Chickenpox! UPDATE It's not chickenpox!

My almost 2 yr old daughter woke up with red spots
on her face, chest, and back and she has had a fever since tuesday. I thought was going to be lucky because she hadn't had a cough.

My poor baby. I remember the chickenpox, they were miserable.

Anyone have any home remedies?
She's taken benadryl and tylenol. I told DH to pick uo caladryl on the way home.

UPDATE:

The spots are finer and cover her completely, I called the dial a nurse and they said it sounds like rosela which is also called baby measles. She is doind fine, and there is nothing I can do but keep the itch down, they said the fever should be over which so far it has. Thanks for all the advice and kind words.

The younger the person, the milder the case, usually.

Hopefully she will sail right on through them!

Try socks on her hands when she sleeps if she can't keep from scratching them! I had them as an adult and the itching was miserable. My kids all had them no older than 3 and they breezed right through them with hardly any scratching.

When mine had chicken pox we also gave them warm baths with aveeno oatmeal in it. Make sure the water is just a little warm, too warm will make them itchie.

I know she must be miserable, but she is really very fortunate she is getting them while young. I was nine months pregnant with my DH, and not only did I know that I had not had chickenpox, but I didn't know you could catch them from someone with Shingles. (Same virus.) I had them full-blown while giving birth, and my newborn son had complications from them. My two year old daughter got them from us, and hers were not near as bad as the baby's. I got some relief in the middle of the night from bathing in Aveeno, which is an oatmeal bath. This may relieve your little one for a while. Lots of popsicles and juice! It will be over soon!

I couldn't imagine being sick while giving birth, that was a big fear for me.

I hope she does just breeze through this, I know she has had the first part of the chickenpox vaccine, but they don't give the second one until she is 4 and I think she won't need it by then. LOL she seems to be doing good though minimal scratching and just a bit cranky and I can live with that.

I had then when I was young. Got them from a cousin who came home from the city.
We had all spent the weekend playing with him so by mid week all of us (20) had them..... lol...the whole lot on the farm was red polka dotted.
At our family reunions we still laugh about that horrible week of our lives!
I HEAR it's better to get them while younger than older...not sure if that is true or not!

Poor baby, at least it isn't the hottest part of the year.

You can save yourself some money and instead of buying Aveeno, just take some oatmeal and tie it in a piece of cloth, ideally cheese cloth, or if you have some knee highs/panty hose, and have that under the faucet when you run the bath water it will do the same thing as aveeno. Then you can let her rub with the oatmeal package when she is in the bath. If you want you can run the oatmeal through the blender, but it isn't necessary.

Epsom salts, lots, and dissolve them under the water before she gets in the bath, or do it in a separate container so you can use really hot water. This will leach out some of what makes her itch so bad.

Loose clothes with out tight elastic, but ones that cover arms and legs so that she isn't tempted to itch.

Thanks I think I will do the oatmeal bath tomorrow morning. Tonight I let her play with the chickens and the water hose. And then put some caladryl on her. She seems o be doing fine. I was going to take her to the doctor, but I really don't think it's needed.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I love byc so much because of all the genuine people that are very knowledgeable about everything, not just chickens.
