My day-old chicks will ship on 8/28/2017 (Monday)!!!

We've talked about electric fence, but how do we ensure that the chickens don't get shocked?
Use extended insulators and ensure hot wires don't touch the wire around the run. I have three hot wires around all my portable shelters. As for my pasture, chickens quickly learn to stay away from the hot fence... that is most of them.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks. I really need the peace of mind knowing they will be safe. Electric wire may be just the thing, then.

I put it at 3", 6", 9" and even 12" if I have a wild hair... I use a half joule solar charger and a 3' grounding rod. It's amazing how loud a coon will cry when it sticks its nose on a 4K-5K jolt.

Edited to add price: I pay $99.00 for the charger and mount it to the shelter.
